North Central College Students to Serve Community Groups on Saturday, Oct. 3

-

North Central College students will help families in need, spend time with children and the elderly, as well as perform other acts of service on Sat., Oct. 3.

Intersection, the College’s annual day of service in the community, is among many reasons North Central has earned recognition from the White House on the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll.

North Central College’s Intersection event is in its ninth year. Student, faculty and staff volunteers work side by side with families, church groups, businesses and other volunteers to collectively organize and complete numerous service projects in a single day.

The Saturday event kicks off at 7:30AM at nine locations in Naperville and other communities, including 360 Youth Services, Emmanuel House, Green Harvest Food Pantry, Lakewood Nursing Home, Little Friends/Fall Festival, Loaves & Fishes Community Services, Touch My Heart and World Relief (two sites). Volunteers serve until 1PM.

The cost to participate is $5/person, capped at $20 per family and includes breakfast and lunch. North Central College student registration is free.

Projects include serving at food pantries, helping bag food items, recycle books and music, and assist clients with food choices. Other projects include painting, running a fun fair with special needs children and their families, assisting with activities at a nursing home, performing landscaping and cleaning work, distributing bags to collect household items for refugee homes and more. Site locations are primarily in Naperville and Aurora, but also include Plainfield.

Volunteers may learn more about projects and locations and register by visiting intersection2015.eventbrite.com.
For more information, contact Karli Saner, assistant director of ministry and service at North Central College, at (630) 637-5106 or kasaner@noctrl.edu.

This event is among many ongoing programs at North Central College to enrich and broaden the cultural and academic outlook for the College and community.
