The Best Montana Breakfast – Shazam! Music Identified!

-

Working in a store that has a Top 40 soundtrack playing continuously overhead, I often hear songs that I’m not familiar with. Like any teen might do, I “Shazam” them.

Just recently I overheard two customers discussing a song that was serenading them. They were admiring the song, but were wishing they knew who the artist was.

When I asked them if they would like me to Shazam it for them, they thought I might explode in a cloud of smoke and reappear in a red jumpsuit and cape.

No, it’s really not that dramatic. It’s just an app.

As a parent of two teens, I sometimes forget that not everyone is in touch with the hip technology available. Just like my friends that are aging a bit more gracefully without children, this couple seemed a little slow to know their BFF’s and OMG’s (that’s text speak for those scratching their heads). I’m definitely not the guy to give a class on texting acronyms, but I do pay close attention to the music apps out there, and Shazam is one of my favorites.

By downloading this app on your smartphone or tablet, your device will have the ability to listen to and identify almost any song in existence. Because it’s as simple as opening the app and tapping the big blue circle, it’s an app that caters to the aging rocker as well as the young whippersnapper.

I think I gained customers for life that afternoon, and I didn’t even have to squeeze into my spandex to save the day.
