Closure scheduled for 22 months to accommodate construction of new North Central College science center

Van Buren Avenue will be closed between Brainard and Loomis streets for nearly two years beginning on Monday, July 13, to facilitate the construction of a new science center on the North Central College campus.

Current plans call for the road to remain closed through April 2017.

Van Buren Avenue will be fully closed between Loomis Street and the Sesquicentennial Walkway (Brainard Street Alley) and closed to through traffic between the alley and Brainard Street to maintain access to the college’s parking lot on the southwest corner of Van Buren Avenue.

The sidewalk located on the north side of Van Buren Avenue will remain open to pedestrians.

The Van Buren Avenue closure is immediately adjacent to the site of North Central College’s planned science center, which will sit on the southwest corner of Van Buren Avenue and Loomis Street. The closure will enhance safety of residents, students, faculty and staff by providing necessary separation between construction traffic and motor vehicle traffic.

Motorists are asked to use Benton Street for the duration of the project and to exercise caution when driving in this area.
