Veterans in Touch – Summer Fun

-

The Naperville VFW and American Legion Posts would like to thank all the residents for the support and donations we received in the Poppy campaigns conducted for 2015. Rest assured, the money collected will go to Veterans and worthy Veterans’ causes in the area.

I attended the state VFW convention in Springfield, IL in June. It was an honor to be there to watch our very dear friend and fellow Veteran, Phil Maughan, be elected and installed as the State VFW Commander for the 2015-2016 year. Without a doubt he is the right man for the job!

Save the date! Once again the 2015 JUDD-A-THON will be run. The date is Sept. 20, 2015. Last year was the first year and it was a success by all accounts. This year will be even better.

If you didn’t participate last year, here is your chance to become a runner. The distance is 0.1K. That is what I said, “0.1K.”

The whole family can run the JUDD-A-THON. Toddlers to seniors participated last year. We had some participants using walkers challenging each other to see who could do the JUDD-A-THON the fastest. For safety reasons, we will have a water station set up halfway through the course. EMT’s will be present to assist any participants who become exhausted.

A prize will be given for the best running outfit. I will again be wearing the pink tutu, but I will be stepping it up a notch. I will be wearing a tuxedo and patent leather crocs. As you can tell, this is a fun event.

The entry fee will be $20/person. For that you will get a shirt, a runners bib and a prestigious 0.1K sticker that you can place on your car window. All proceeds go to the VFW National Home For Children. It is the happiest place on earth. Go to their website www.vfwnationalhome.org to see what they do.

More details will follow in the coming months. If you want to be a sponsor contact me. We expect a sell out this year. When the entry forms come out, make sure you sign up early.
