Pulse of Naperville Music Scene – Last Fling Will Host an ‘Idol’

-

Let me first say that American Idol is not my cup of tea. I have a huge amount of respect for the artists that the show has produced, but almost all of them draw from Pop, R&B, or Soul music styles. I’d like to see more variety from the show, maybe a folk singer or an opera talent. Even rock singers are few and far between on the show, but there have been a few, and Chris Daughtry is the pick of the litter.

Among the many accolades that Daughtry has received are four Grammy nominations, four AMA’s, and four No.1 hits. His band has sold over 8 million albums and 18 million singles worldwide. His self-titled debut album is the fastest selling rock debut in SoundScan history. Those are pretty good stats for a guy that finished in fourth place during the show’s fifth season.

As Daughtry brings his namesake band onto Rotary Hill for the Naperville Jaycees Last Fling festival on Saturday, Sept. 5, his giving heart and the value he places on family are a perfect fit for the Naperville community.

Married to his wife Deanna since November 2000, he has four children and embraces life as a family man. He is also involved with various charities, including an ambassadorship with DC Comics’ We Can Be Heroes campaign, which helps fight hunger in underdeveloped countries.

Aside from being the voice of some of the biggest rock songs in the world, his actions speak volumes as a solid role model, and that’’s something I always like to welcome with open arms.
