GREETINGS TO PN / JULY 2015 / VOLUME 14 #11

-

Find the most recent greeting  posted at the top of this selection as the page is updated throughout the month.

Occasionally, Greetings to PN also are linked to other online PN stories that are saved in our archive. Many greetings, edited for space for the printed publication, will appear in the next issue.

Thank you for keeping greetings as brief as possible. And thanks for sending your thoughts about this community with your signature, first and last name. We welcome them!

To PN: The Naperville Area Homeowners Confederation will sponsor a town hall meeting at 7PM on Mon., August 17 to talk about city revenue enhancements. My August column, while introducing the event and some of the issues, is a little light on details (primarily because the program is still very much a work in progress). In addition to a “studio audience,” it will be telecast on WCNC (Channel 6 WOW, Channel 10 Comcast, and Channel 99 AT&T), the City of Naperville public access cable. Hopefully, we will tee up the issue and its importance.                                          —Bob Fischer, President NAHC

To PN:  I was in Aurora over the Fourth visiting a friend and saw a sign for Naperville. I’ve read SO MUCH about the EAB (Saving ash trees) management there, I had to drive through! Lovely little town! … Anyway- yes, you do a positively  great job managing EAB. I wanted you to know about this new research, however, and thought Naperville residents, above anyone else would be interested!

Anand Persad, manager of arboriculture and plant sciences, has a NEW way to detect EAB a full year earlier. … Early detection and treatment is less invasive and less expensive than removing trees. For info, contact Skeet at www.thecareoftrees.com/ or click on EAB Watch. —Katie Dubow, Garden Media Group

To PN: I thoroughly have always enjoyed PN. I’ve lived here for 54 years. … It’s such a cozy newspaper and I just love it!  Old Naperville! Thank you very much.  You do a wonderful service.  —JoAnn Smith

To PN: Thank you again for your participation in Ribfest 2015!  We could not have such a successful event without our wonderful sponsors.  Because of you, we can take the next important step in Ribfest: preparing to allocate the monies raised to 50+ non for profit agencies in Naperville and surrounding communities.

Thank you again. Hope you all have a wonderful summer.

—MJ Howenstine,  Administrator, Exchange Club of Naperville / Ribfest 2015

To PN: The 19th Annual Rotary Ride is already a huge success, with 15 sponsors led by DiGiovine, Hnilo, Jordan & Johnson, Ltd.  We are well on our way to providing new financial support to local charities Naperville Cares, Naperville Responds for our Veterans and international support to Rotary’s Polio Plus. Please join us on Sunday August 9th for Rotary Ride.  Sign up at NapervilleRotaryRide.com. —Pat Benton, Rotary Club of Naperville / Downtown

To PN: I mailed copies of the latest issue with Dorcas’ mention on the cover to each of the two sons, Jeff Pearcy and Fred Toenniges.

Here’s her obit from the funeral home (Cremation Society of Minnesota).

I’m rereading her short biography Facets of Dorcas.   —Steve Hyett

To PN:  I love your caption on the PN website! (Friends Aim to Fund Research for Little-Known Batten Disease) … We live in such a wonderful community! …

Editor’s Note: Find Waldo hiding all during July throughout Naperville at many independent businesses. Note in PN’s cover photo above that he was in clear view at the Naperville Trolley stop. Naperville Trolley & Tours, a member of the city’s independent business community, is celebrating its 20th birthday this month.

Above / Waldo is tucked away on shelves in downtown Naperville. If you look for Waldo at one of Naperville’s independent restaurants, you’ll find him near the entrance or waiting area. Waldo will not be hidden among the tables for guests. Thank you!

TO PN: Rita (Fredenhagen Harvard) would give you a BIG hug for your Memories ideas shown at Ribfest!!  Wish I had seen your Expo Booth. Thank you, Stephanie, for the many Memories so many people still have of Cock Robin, after so many years.  All good things to you. —John Harvard

TO Exchange Club of Naperville / Ribfest 2015: Hopefully you are decompressing after your busy Ribfest weekend. I had emailed you in April, saying that I was handicapped and asking for advice  in my choice of seating locations. I did everything you suggested.

I am unbelievably impressed, not only was The Band Perry awesome last night, but EVERY SINGLE person that my companion and I encountered was very accommodating and gracious.

From parking, to access, to the handicapped seating area, it was great.

Special kudos to Mark who was “in charge” of the handicapped area.

Unfortunately, people are often very quick to criticize, but not so generous with their praise.

I have NOTHING but praise, and only a little shame that your event has been going on for 28 years….and it took me this long to get there.

Thank you again for all your assistance.     —Pat Reding, St. Charles, Illinois

TO Exchange Club of Naperville/ Ribfest 2015: Thanks for the extraordinary work you do on behalf of the children and our community.  We went on the Fourth of July and had such a wonderful experience.  We spent the extra money for the Sponsor Tent and our group was very pleased at the services we got!  The crowd was well controlled, the volunteers, food,  and service was great!  AND we LOVED Tres Moustache before the fireworks.  They are one of our favorite Naperville bands and it was so fun to see them on the Main Stage.  Everyone was dancing, singing and had a great time.  Thank you for having Tres Moustache, great clean family fun for all ages!

Our experience made us fall in love with Ribfest all over again!  —Dan and Jeannine Allen

Hagar-Ribfest-2015

TO PN: Before making his way onto the Navistar Main Stage last night at the Exchange Club of Naperville’s Ribfest, Sammy Hagar, former Van Halen front man and current lead singer for The Circle, presented local hunger relief organization Loaves & Fishes Community Services with a $2,500 check. This donation, made through The Hagar Family Foundation, will be used to expand Loaves & Fishes’ Child Nutrition Initiative, which provides supplemental nutrition to children of low-income families in DuPage County.

—Allison Kurtz, for Loaves & Fishes

TO PN:  We appreciate how you share all these wonderful events with the community.   I absolutely love Positively Naperville! Thank you.  —Julie Berkowicz, Organizer, Knoch Knolls 4th of July Parade

TO PN: I wanted to make sure you knew how much I appreciated your writing the article on Kristen Kaiser Gray and her girls. I can’t tell you how much of a response I have gotten and how many people learned about curebatten.org through your piece. Thank you so very much!  —Casey McCormick
