Overwhelming volume requires new limits on electronics recycling

Due to the overwhelming volume of electronics being brought to Naperville’s Recycling Drop-Off Center, the City’s electronics recycling contractor has imposed a temporary hold on accepting CRT televisions, projection screen televisions and console televisions, effective immediately.

The City of Naperville, in partnership with DuPage County, entered into an 18-month contract with New Life Electronics Recycling in January to dispose of all electronics brought to the City’s 180 Fort Hill Drive regional drop-off center. Since that time, more than 629,000 pounds of electronics have been recycled, 45 percent of which are cathode ray tube (or CRT) computer monitors and televisions.

In order for New Life Electronics Recycling to continue providing service at no cost to the City, the company has temporarily placed a hold on accepting CRT televisions, projection screen televisions, and console televisions. While CRT computer monitors and flat screen televisions are still accepted, the City has imposed a limit on these items of one per vehicle.

Additional, fee-based electronics recycling options can be found on the City’s website – www.naperville.il.us/electronicsrecycle.aspx – for those community members who need to properly dispose of CRT televisions, projection screen televisions and console televisions during this temporary hold.
