Centennial Beach Opens Saturday, May 23

-

Centennial Beach opens its gates for the 2015 summer season on Saturday, May 23. It will be open daily through August 17 – then on weekends through Labor Day.

Naperville’s unique and historic swimming beach is open to residents and nonresidents. Visible along the Riverwalk and within easy walking distance of downtown shops and restaurants, Centennial Beach features deep water swimming with diving boards and floating rafts and a large shallow end with a slide, spray features and zero depth entry. In addition to the large sand play area, Centennial Beach has acres of lawn dotted with Adirondack chairs and umbrellas.

Centennial Beach offers both daily passes and season memberships. Early bird rates are in effect through May 22, offering up to 20 percent off regular membership fees. Naperville residents as well as nonresidents receive the early bird discount.

New this year, Twilight memberships are available for those who plan to visit the Beach on weekday evenings after 5PM and weekends. Additionally, members may purchase a Friends and Family Pass for out-of-town summer visitors, including grandparents, nannies, friends and family. Information about rates and registration can be found at www.centennialbeach.org.

Centennial Beach members are invited to a pre-season Beach party from 4-7PM on Friday, May 22. This members-only event will include music by a D.J., inflatables for kids, and fun activities in addition to swimming. Guests may bring a picnic or purchase food from Centennial Grill. Those who wish to purchase a season membership can do so at the door and still attend the event.

Once again the Beach will extend its hours to include times for “Weekend Adult Float” and “Special Needs Nights.” Adults can float on inner tubes on most Saturday and Sunday mornings and on the evenings of June 21 and July 19. Families with individuals who have special needs may enjoy a quiet, relaxing evening after regular hours on Sundays, June 7 and 28, and July 5 and 26.

New in 2015, young swimmers who pass the deep water test will be given an identification bracelet, allowing them to swim in the deep end and use the diving boards after taking and passing the test once for the season.

In addition to open swim, Centennial Beach offers aquatic programs including swim lessons, swim team, springboard diving, fitness classes, triathlon training, water polo, and Beachside yoga.
