8th Annual Spring for a Cure – 7PM | $125
The Pavilion at Meson Sabika – 1025 Aurora Ave. Naperville, IL 60540
To benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society~ The 8th Annual Spring for a Cure ~ A Red Tie Event ~ will be held on Friday, May 1 at 7PM at The Pavilion at Meson Sabika in Naperville. This special evening will feature live music, silent original art auction, and live auction, as well as a premium open bar and a filet and lobster dinner. Kick off Kentucky Derby weekend in style…derby attire is welcome. Tickets are $125 per person, tables of 10 are $1000. All proceeds will benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, the world’s largest voluntary health agency dedicated to blood cancer. LLS funds lifesaving blood cancer research around the world and provides free information and support services. On Sunday, May 3rd, 360 Youth Services will be hosting the 16th Annual 360 Spring Ahead ‘Let’s Celebrate Mom’ 10K, 5K and two NEW events: Kids Obstacle Course and a High Heel Dash. The funds raised for this event will be used to support the programs and services of the agency. Long Sleeve Tech Shirts are available for adults, while supplies last, breakfast will be served, and award money will be given for the top male and females winners in both the 10K and 5K Runs. Church services in the German language will be held at St. John United Church of Christ at 11:30AM on Sunday, May 3. The service will be led by Pastor Dr. Egon Gerdes, and all are welcome to attend. Following the service, a reception will celebrate 20 years of German services in Naperville. St. John UCC is located at 1190 Olesen Drive. The History Speaks Lecture Series: The Story of the S.S. Eastland will be held from 4 to 5PM Sunday, May 3 at Naper Settlement’s Century Memorial Chapel, 523 S. Webster St., Naperville. Actor and historian Terry Lynch of HFK presents will portray Ollie Sanders, a Western Electric employee, who was an eyewitness to the disaster of the S.S. Eastland. Relive the events, aftermath and ongoing legends that surround the sinking of the ‘Speed Queen of the Great Lakes’ on the Chicago River on July 24, 1915. Day-of event admission is $7 for adults and $6 for youth ages 4 to 12, students and Settlement-6 members and above. Advance tickets save $1 each, call (630) 420-6010.
