Barbershop chorus will host ‘guest night’ on May 12

-

The Chorus of DuPage, an a cappella men’s barbershop chorus, invites men of all ages who like to sing to a guest night at 7:30PM Tues., May 12, 2015, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 815 S. Washington Street, immediately south of Edward Hospital in Naperville.

The purpose of this free event is to show men, from teens to seniors, how much fun it can be to sing and perform with a chorus.  Beginning singers and experienced singers are welcome.  The men will have the opportunity to meet new friends, learn fun songs and improve their performance skills in a casual environment.  Reservations are not required, but early check in is encouraged.

“If you are a man who likes to sing and want a hobby that will provide a lifetime of enjoyment, then barbershop may be for you,” said Jerry Broz, a 14-year member of the chorus.

The Chorus of Du Page is one of almost 800 Barbershop Harmony Society men’s choruses throughout North America that meet regularly to practice, socialize, perform and sing a cappella harmony in barbershop style.  Their repertoire includes special four-part arrangements of today’s ballads and upbeat songs, popular show tunes, inspirational hymns, patriotic songs and, of course, old-time barbershop favorites. Singing the satisfying sounds of barbershop harmony provides a rich, rewarding experience.

Editor’s Note: It has been our observation over the years that many of the men who love to sing take their harmony to Quigley’s Irish Pub after their rehearsal where patrons are serenaded with beautiful music as they enjoy a cold beverage.  Some of the members also perform as quartets, available to sing for local special events. Cheers!
