The Waubonsie Valley High School Music Department proudly presents the 2015 Vocal Pops Concerts featuring our award-winning, nationally-renowned show choirs ”Girls in Heels” and ”Sound Check.” The program will feature music from primarily the musical theater and popular music genres–from Elvis, The Supremes and Chaka Khan up to today’s hits by Rascal Flatts, Robin Thicke, Jessie J, and the Black Eyed Peas as well as music from The Parent Trap, Dreamgirls, and Spring Awakening–all presented by a cast of a hundred singer-dancers in costume with elaborate and energetic choreography and live instrumentalists. Join members of NAHC on Saturday morning when this month’s meeting features the annual get-together with members of Naperville’s City Council. Every April, the Confederation invites the City Council for a discussion on priorities, needs, and opportunities facing our city and neighborhoods. The agenda is open, the discussion is interactive, and the only ground rules are civility, respect and common courtesy. Current officers also will announce their nominating committee’s proposed slate for officers and directors to be elected in May. The meeting will adjourn by 10AM. Public welcome.

Transfer Visit Day at North Central College – 9AM

NCC will host a Visit Day on Saturday, April 18, for transfer students. Visitors can learn about academic choices, transfer admission process, transfer scholarships and financial aid, and tour the campus. Registration begins at 9AM in the Wentz Concert Hall lobby, 171 E. On race day, registration and packet pickup begins at 6:30AM, Race at 8AM. $35 for members, $45 for nonmembers if registered by April 10. $45 on race day, but spots may be limited Welcome the return of spring with the fifth annual Arbor Day 10K. Race participants will travel a USA Track & Field-certified course of scenic, rolling terrain on the Arboretum’s east side. Runners receive a short-sleeve technical T-shirt, recovery food, admission to the Arboretum and a post-race party that includes live music and a complimentary post-race beer. The top three men and women in the designated age groups will receive medals.

Holy Smokes Drive-Thru BBQ – 11AM | $5-$12

What could be better than driving up and getting delicious barbecued pork and/or chicken with all the yummy sides, cooked fresh off the grill? That’s what you’ll get at Grace United Methodist Church’s ‘Holy Smokes’ Drive-Thru BBQ on Sunday, April 19, 11AM – 1PM, in the lower church parking lot. Cooked on-premise by 5-B’s Barbecue, a two-meat meal (pork chop and chicken quarter or two of the same meat) is $12; a one-meat meal (pork chop or chicken quarter) is $10; and a kid’s meal of a hot dog is $5. All meals include baked beans, apple sauce, cole slaw, dinner roll and butter. Proceeds benefit Grace Church youth summer mission trips. Grace Church is located at 300 E. Gartner Road in Naperville. Become a sleuth by solving riddles to find letterboxes. Make your own stamp and practice your seeking skills around the Settlement. Open to both Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts in grades 2-5. Xilin’s Lantern Festival special event began in 2006 with support from the SECA fund from the city of Naperville. Over the past nine years, Xilin Association, Xilin Performing Arts Academy, and the Xilin Chinese School dance programs have worked diligently to bring the best aspects of eastern culture to the Naperville community. Our special guest artists this year will include the Professional Dance Company from HuaZhong University, and the Mongolia musician MengHeDaLai. The HuaZhong Dance Company will bring the beautifully choreographed Chinese ethnic dance to audiences. In addition, you will also experience the unique HuMai, the famous Mongolian ethnic songs, accompanied by the beautiful sound of the Mongolian Horse Head String Instrument. With each year, the Lantern Festival brings to life a piece of unique Chinese culture and history with brilliant costumes, vibrant music, and exciting dance.
