Editor’s Note: The recent City Council Election serves as a good example of local leadership that begins with experience earned by serving on a board or commission. For instance, Becky Anderson served as chairman of the Advisory Cultural Commission. Rebecca Boyd-Obarski served as Chairman of the Fire and Police Commissioners. Patty Gustin served as Chairman of the Planning and Zoning Commission. Most recently, Kevin Coyne served on the Planning and Zoning Commission. John Krummen served on the Public Utilities Advisory Board. Kevin Gallaher previously served on the City Council. Incumbents Judy Brodhead and Paul Hinterlong, both re-elected, served previously on the Planning and Zoning Commission. Mayor-Elect Steve Chirico most recently served on the Advisory Cultural Commission.
