Celebrating Sister Cities

-

Sister1
The purpose of this 15-member commission is to foster international understanding and friendship by forging personal links through city-to-city affiliations. By exchanging ideas and experiences with Sister Cities Nitra, Slovakia, since 1993; and Pátzcuaro, Mexico, since 2010; Naperville strives to strengthen culture, business, government and environment. Recently commissioners reminisced with Mayor George Pradel about a visit from Slovak President Michal Kovac who traveled to Chicago to receive the CEELI Award from The American Bar Association (ABA) in 1995, back when Ron Miller was City Manager.

Naperville Sister Cities Commission will celebrate international culture at Wentz Hall and Fine Arts Center, 171 East Chicago Ave., Naperville on the campus of North Central College at 8PM on Fri., April 17 with a performing arts exposition.

Four unique performances will be featured: Chicago Sinfonietta renowned for their multi-ethnic embrace; the Neuqua Chamber Singers, a Naperville award-winning voices; Mexico Ballet Folkloric showcasing our newest sister city, Patzcuaro, Mexico and Nitra, Slovakia, Naperville’s sister city since 1993 with the legendary Slovakian dance presentation.

Sister2Prior to the entertainment portion of the evening, at 6:30PM, delegates from Illinois Sister Cities Commissions will be hosted to a dinner gala at Wentz Hall exchanging their warmhearted world-wide associations. Following the gala, the general public is invited to delight in an extraordinary international program entitled Celebrate Sister Cities Performing Arts honoring our cultural, educational, humanitarian, and economic exchanges.

Tickets are $20 and can be secured at the North Central College Wentz ticket office, by phone at (630) 637-7469 or at tickets.noctrl.edu prior to April 16. To obtain details other than event tickets and venue please contact Emy Trotz, Executive Assistant to Mayor Pradel at trotze@naperville.il.us.

An ombudsman is Scandinavian in origin dating back to Viking times; and refers to a community representative; usually acting independently on behalf of an organization, body of elected officials, or civic group. Thanks Scandinavia for inventing ombudsman.
