Summer season begins April 1

The summer season begins at 10AM Wed., April 1 at Naper Settlement. Programs and special events are held throughout the summer season of April through October on the 12-acre museum campus that features 30 historic buildings and structures. Hours are from 10AM to 4PM Tuesday through Saturday and from 1 to 4PM Sunday. Admission is $12 adults (13+), $10 seniors (62+) and $8 youth (4-12). Members and children under 4 are free. Naperville residents receive free general admission.

Wednesday Walking Club

Get fit the old fashioned way! Every Wednesday from 8 to 9AM April 1-Oct. 28, join the free Wednesday Walking Club at Naper Settlement. When it comes to outdoor activity, there is no better way than an active stroll around the beautiful 12-acre museum campus. Check in at the Pre-Emption House Visitor Center, then log your minutes (not miles). No registration is required for this free drop-in program for all ages. Earn reward tickets to Naper Settlement programs and events.

Flashback Friday – Meet a Curator

Meet the museum’s curatorial staff, hear about their work and see real artifacts from the museum’s collection from 1 to 2:30PM Fri., April 3 at the Collections Care and Storage Facility, City of Naperville Department of Public Works Building, 180 Fort Hill Drive, Naperville, Door C in Naperville. There are over 55,000 objects in the collection, and each one has a fascinating story. This dynamic tour changes each month. April’s topic is the “Legacy of the Kroehler Furniture Company.” Tickets are $10 per person, $8 for Settlement-4 and above members. Space is limited to the first 20 registrants. Registration required.

History Speaks Lecture Series: Forever the Tramp: A Chaplin Retrospective

Actor and historian Terry Lynch will portray legendary actor and director, Charlie Chaplin, in “Forever the Tramp: A Chaplin Retrospective,” a presentation of the History Speaks Lecture Series from 4 to 5PM Sun., April 12 at Naper Settlement’s Century Memorial Chapel. Hear about Chaplin’s legendary career as a pioneer of American film including his days in Chicago with Essanay Studios, his Hollywood success, an honorary Oscar in 1972, and finally, his exile in Switzerland. Day of event tickets are $7 adults, $6 youth (4-12), students and Settlement-6 and above members. Advance tickets save $1 each.

Super Scout Sunday – Geocaching and Letterboxing

Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts in grades 2-5 can explore Naper Settlement’s grounds like never before from 1 to 4 PM Sun., April 16. Use a high-tech GPS unit for geocaching to find hidden caches. Become a sleuth by solving riddles to find letterboxes. Make your own stamp and practice your seeking skills around the 12-acre museum campus. The Letterboxer Brownie Badge and the Geocacher Junior Badge can be earned. Fee is $27 per Scout, registration is required.

Naper Wine and Dine

Support the Naperville Heritage Society at the annual wine dinner, which will be held from 5:30 to 9PM Mon., April 27 at Sullivan’s Steakhouse, 224 S. Main St. in downtown Naperville. The wine dinner boasts a five-course meal paired with hand-selected wines from Wente Vineyards. Tickets are $175 with wine and $125 without wine.
