Community TV offers opportunities for interns, multi-media journalists

-

In today’s economy, students have to start building their careers in high school in order to better compete in the college admissions process, for college internships, and eventually full-time jobs,” said Dan Schawbel, founder of Millennial Branding and author of Promote Yourself: The New Rules For Career Success.

At NCTV17, we’ve been committed to educating the next generation of broadcast professionals for many years. As part of that commitment we offer high school and college internship opportunities at the station each summer.

According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), internships can be defined as a form of experiential learning that integrates knowledge and theory learned in the classroom with practical application and skill development in a professional setting.

NCTV17 interns get real-life, hands-on experience in the TV world, from camera operating and editing, to field interviews and studio shoots. Interns also learn about leadership, communication, business ethics, and community relations from weekly panel presentations given by local Naperville business and government leaders.

To be eligible for an NCTV17 internship, high school and college students must either be a resident of Naperville or a student currently enrolled in Naperville Community Unit School District 203, Indian Prairie School District 204 or North Central College.

Previous NCTV17 interns have gone on to pursue careers in television production, broadcast journalism, and communication at larger organizations including NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN, Fox, 120 Sports, and Banner Collective.

To check out a video about our internship program and complete an application, visit http://www.nctv17.com/internships/. Applications are due March 30.

Hallway Happenings

HALLWAYHAPPENINGS+OTS+(2)Earlier this school year, NCTV17 launched a new show featuring news stories produced by media students from each of the five high schools within School Districts 203 and 204.

The third episode of “Hallway Happenings” premiers this week. This episode includes stories on Neuqua Valley’s annual Variety Show, the Jazz Band and Senior Fashion Show at Naperville North, Freshman Career Day at Waubonsie Valley, the Athletic Hall of Fame at Naperville Central and wraps with a story about the “I Am” initiative at Metea Valley.

Each of these stories give viewers an inside look at their local high schools from a student perspective. NCTV17 is excited to share these stories; all of which were produced by the next generation of multi-media journalists.

For air times, visit www.nctv17.com/schedule or go online at www.nctv17.com/schoolprogramming/ to watch the episode on-demand.
