When Hunter Byington first visited the Rotary Club of Naperville in 2004, the club was setting up for Oktoberfest.
“With Art Davis leading the charge, you can’t say no,” admits Hunter, Rotary Club’s honoree for Volunteer of the Month.
“Rotary thinks big!” he explains. “Whether it is Oktoberfest or Soups On!, scholarships or our upcoming 5K race for the international committee, the members want to make a difference. Why? Because we reach beyond Naperville, with our international committee going to Nigeria and India, our contributions to eradicating Polio worldwide, and helping build safe water wells in Africa.”
In addition to Rotary, Hunter has volunteered for NEF, YMCA, REACH, Citizens Appreciate Public Safety (CAPS), and his church.
“Rotary draws our business leaders into giving back. It’s where you see what true leadership in action is,” said Hunter.
This year’s Rotary Club of Naperville President John Gallagher nominated Hunter.
“He has always been there to assist through public relations and helping us put Rotary’s best face forward,” said Gallagher. “He steps up whenever you ask and does it cheerfully.”
Gallagher continued, “It was Hunter who came up with the idea of us sponsoring an election forum for city council and mayoral candidates. He put together a very professional three-night forum for the city council candidates and a mayor’s forum. Hunter did a great job.”
Hunter and his wife, Barbara, moved to Naperville from Alabama in 1984. They set up their sales and marketing business, Closer Consulting, two years later.
