March Editor’s Notes

-

shamrockA short month, a mighty snowfall and a deep freeze over-shadowed the sunny dispositions of many local residents we encountered recently. Still we prevail, enthusiastic for March with the hope that the approaching spring season will turn what can be temperamental weather into a steady stream of warm days. Plus, we especially enjoy highlighting the fun and frolic that accompanies St. Patrick’s Day.

Before we forget, thanks to many readers for sending “snow creation sightings” that we photographed and posted on our website. If you missed them, they’ve been saved for perpetuity in the big cloud under “Memories of packing snow into creative sculptures.” PN’s handy “Search for Something” tool leads to all sorts of stories and photos saved in our archives. We’re aiming to keep snow images out of this March issue as we think green, green, green.

Historic Consolidated Election

Surprisingly, endorsements of candidates running in the Consolidated Election slated for Tues., April 7, already have been announced by some groups and media outlets. While PN has never endorsed candidates, we, too, took an early interest in this historic campaign when all nine seats on the City Council, including the Mayor, are up for election. Our aim is to engage residents of all ages in the process to become informed voters.

Thanks also to every resident who takes time to appreciate what it takes to serve on one of our community’s governing bodies for our municipality, schools, parks and College of DuPage. We hope the candidates aren’t in it to win it for the perks, power and prestige!

All qualified and dedicated candidates deserve our attention and consideration with an informed vote. They’re also entitled to tough questions, so ask them how they’ll manage local budgets and public policy issues for the best future we can put forward.

Win or lose, we’re hopeful qualified candidates who may come up short in April will continue to find ways to serve until they can run again in two years.

Thanks for reading online, too!

We try hard not to waste your time. We aim to incite a few chuckles by the time you’ve read our publication every month. Readers tell us they don’t always get through our pages in one sitting, but they keep PN around all month, mindful of the good news on our pages that supports a remarkable quality of life in this city.

That’s why we’re especially grateful for your readership and the support of all of our advertisers.

And think green! If you don’t know about the West Suburban Irish St. Patrick’s Day Parade after reading this issue, you’re out of luck.
