PN Valentine’s Day Guide 2015

Couples, romantics and good friends will be delighted with Naperville Valentine’s Day festivities. From cards to restaurants and roses, area businesses are ready with special menus, gifts and packages.

valentinesdayAs always, be sure to make reservations at restaurants early to avoid disappointment.  Downtown restaurants, like Hugo’s Frog Bar and Fish House – located at Main Street Promenade – are almost completely booked-up.  And, don’t forget to tip your servers, bartenders and valets.

Before doing anything, visit Oswald’s Pharmacy for many sweetheart deals, including candies and novelty chocolates from Fannie May, Russell Stover, Brach’s, Hershey’s and Farley’s.

Naperville’s oldest pharmacy also has a huge selection of Valentine cards designed for all ages and senses of humor. Plus, their ever-growing selection of gifts offers something for everyone. What’s more, the branch of the U.S. Post Office in Oswald’s creates a convenient one-stop place to shop, package and send special Valentines in time to arrive to family and friends by Feb. 14. Oswald’s Pharmacy is centrally located in Naperville Plaza, a popular shopping destination on the southwest corner of Gartner at Washington near Casey’s Foods.

Cary_Elwes_credit_Miranda_Penn_TurinTrue love shines on Valentines’ Day when actor, turned author, Cary Elwes visits Naperville for a special Anderson’s Bookshop event to be held at The Yellow Box auditorium at Community Christian Church. Known for The Princess Bride and other roles, Elwes shares his new title, As You Wish. And fans are welcome to meet the acclaimed actor at 2PM on Sat., February 14. Community Christian Church is located at 1635 Emerson Lane, just off Ogden Avenue in Naperville. Tickets are required and available with the purchase of the author’s featured book at Anderson’s Bookshop, 123 W. Catch 35 at 35 S. Washington in downtown Naperville will be offering an array of a la carte seafood menu items. Catch 35 offers a fresh daily assortment of fresh fish from salmon and scallops to lobster and sea bass. An extensive wine list and by the glass program are also available. SugarToad is featuring a multi-course “Hers and His” menu Friday and Saturday, Feb. 13 – 14. The menu is offered at $100 pp. A few highlights include seared scallop with ginger-scallion oil; sea bass with gewurttraminer-saffron sauce; seared filet with parsnip puree; and a chocolate tasting. A Mardi Gras theme and Cajun specialties will spice up the night at Heaven on Seven, 224 S Main St. The normal dinner menu will be offered as well as many local craft brews on drought.  Some Cajun specialties include shrimp and grits, chicken voodoo, Louisiana crab cakes, Andouille sausage with sweet potatoes, gumbo and more. And remember that Fat Tuesday is just around the corner on Feb. 19 at the New Orleans-style eatery. Live music and hurricanes await Mardi Gras revelers. And don’t forget the gumbo!

CityGate Grille will be serving its full dinner menu inspired by the flavors of the Mediterranean. Live music will begin at 7:30PM featuring jazz from ES Express. Charm your Valentine with classic romance and a Spanish experience at Meson Sabika in the historic Naperville Mansion. A pre-fixe 5-course tapas style menu will be available Saturday, February 14 for $44.95 pp. Some tapas tasting items include robust garlic potato salad, chilled tiger shrimp;  bacon wrapped dates; beef tenderloin medallions and lobster; dark chocolate mouse layered with pistachio sponge cake.
