Veterans in Touch – Lent and Fish Frys

-

fish-fry-2015-vfwIn conjunction with Belgio’s Catering, the Fish Fries at Judd Kendall VFW Post 3873 in Naperville will be held from 5-8PM every Friday night during Lent, beginning Feb. 13 and running through April 3.

The VFW is located at 908 W. Jackson Ave., just west of Centennial Beach.

This year the Post will be celebrating 50-plus years of serving the Naperville community. Even now we have ice fisherman out dropping their lines down in the cold waters catching the fish.

Besides the different kinds of fish, many other delicious entrees will be served by Belgio’s. The under 10 crowd has demanded chicken nuggets, so they will be on the menu again. In addition, great pasta dishes as well as other tantalizing entrees will be served.

When I looked at the menu, I was impressed that this year Belgio’s has outdone themselves in providing a varied and healthy menu.

“All you care to eat” is the motto of the Post. What other fish fry offers such a deal? Talk about bang for the buck; we are often imitated, but never duplicated.

Every week we will have a different branch of service helping to clean up and make the fish fries a success. That in itself will be something to see—I’ll actually be cleaning tables on Army night. We will make sure that photographers are there the night Marines help. It is so hard to find them. The Air Force is actually hiring workers to clean for them.

It never ceases to amaze me at the wide range of ages that are there. We see two and sometimes three generations who are there to eat the good food. In talking to the older folks, they tell us they started to come to the fish fries years ago, brought their children and now their grandchildren are there with them.

The Lenten Fish Fries at the “V” are a great way to meet old friends, make new friends and just have a great time. Get the word out to all your friends, relatives and enemies. Everyone has told us that the food is good, the atmosphere is great and they really feel like they help Veterans when they eat there.
