SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Yesterday, Governor Bruce Rauner addressed the Illinois General Assembly in his first State of the State Address.  41st District Representative Grant Wehrli released a statement in regards to the Address.

“Governor Rauner gave what I would consider to be a very real assessment of our state’s financial situation, calling on us to meet our challenges head on together. The Governor spoke strongly about job creation, education and giving opportunity back to the people of Illinois. Many issues that the he touched on today was very what I campaigned around,” said Wehrli. “I applaud the Governor for his honest presentation of the state’s current status, perhaps the first time in over a decade, and I support his proposal to merge the offices of comptroller and treasurer. Merging these two elected offices would add to an annual savings of $12 million for taxpayers, also reducing redundancies within the two offices. I thank the Governor for addressing these crucial issues as well as the work of his staff and await the upcoming budget speech where we can expect to hear a more detailed assessment of the Governor’s plan.”

An ombudsman is Scandinavian in origin dating back to Viking times; and refers to a community representative; usually acting independently on behalf of an organization, body of elected officials, or civic group. Thanks Scandinavia for inventing ombudsman.
