During a meeting that lasted just past 8PM on January 20, Councilman Judy Brodhead stood at the podium to recognize the Naper Notify Team with the January Team Award during the Awards and Recognitions on the first part of the evening’s agenda.
Attired in their distinctive “Ask me about Naper Notify” t-shirts, the team— comprised of members of the communications and finance departments as well as the city manager’s office—was lauded for its easy-to-use and effective service to communicate important information to local residents in a timely and accurate way. Since its inception in November 2013, Naper Notify has signed up 10,000 citizens for the service.

Moments later, Mayor George Pradel introduced the community to a young resident, John Paul Dwyer, who arrived on the local scene at 1:56AM on New Year’s Day. The infant and his family were welcomed with a proclamation recognizing that the youngest Dwyer was the first baby born at Edward Hospital in 2015 whose parents live in Naperville.

Tom Miers will serve Naperville City Council
Forty-year Naperville resident Tom Miers is known for making many contributions to the community and to local youth through his service on numerous boards, including the YMCA. For 30 years, he’s been employed by the banking industry and currently Miers is president of Naperville Bank and Trust.
Pursuant to state law and noting Miers’ longtime community involvement, first-hand experiences and financial background, Mayor George Pradel proposed that Miers be appointed to serve the seat on City Council left vacant when former Councilman Grant Wehrli was elected to serve in the Illinois State Legislature.
Councilman Paul Hinterlong made the motion to approve Miers and Councilman Steve Chirico seconded the motion. Miers received unanimous support from the City Council. Pradel directed City staff to prepare a resolution and  anticipates that Miers will be sworn in during the next City Council meeting on Feb. 3.
Editor’s Note: The audience on January 20 in Council Chambers was filled with many candidates running in the 2015 Consolidated Election. That’s a good thing.
