Community leaders, conservation groups, and anyone interested in learning about the status of local rivers and streams and what they can do about it are invited to attend the 2015 DuPage Environmental Summit from 11AM to 5PM on Thurs., Feb. 19, at the Naperville campus of Northern Illinois University.
This free day-long seminar is presented by the DuPage County Stormwater Management and The Conservation Foundation, featuring exhibits and workshops that focus on ways to alleviate flooding, to reduce runoff, to improve water quality and to engage the community in these efforts.
According to organizers of the summit, local rivers and streams have taken a beating over the past 100 years. Stormwater runoff, flooding, erosion, pollution and habitat degradation have taken their toll since the urbanization of the DuPage landscape. The summit will focus on the great strides that have been taken to improve these conditions, heading in the right direction.
Presentations will be made by local experts on the current status, condition and issues facing local rivers and streams, large-scale programs and restoration projects being implemented, and what communities can do to educate and engage their citizens in helping to restore and clean up local waterways.
