DuPage Children’s Museum plans ‘super-powered’ Bubble Bash

-

Bubble Bash 2014—A Super-POWERED New Year’s Eve celebration—is planned at 9AM-Noon Wed., Dec. 31, at DuPage Children’s Museum

DuPage Children’s Museum will power up and transform into an elite, super hero headquarters complete with action-packed activities, caped crusaders, and a mighty musical performance by Mr. Dave and his Super Hero Sidekicks for Bubble Bash 2014,  from 9AM to 12PM on Wed., Dec. 31. In its thirteenth year, the Museum’s annual family-friendly countdown to noon has become a beloved tradition for many with multi-generations of families gathering together to celebrate the past and look forward to what the next year will bring.

Mayor George Pradel again will present the countdown in his inimitable “super-charged” style.

“The super hero theme was a natural choice because it allows us to present activities which explore art, math, and science in some really dramatic and fun ways,” said Marcia MacRae, Public Programs Manager, DuPage Children’s Museum. “Plus it reflects our mission – to encourage children to develop their own super powers – creativity, thinking and problem-solving skills.”

Providing musical entertainment at Bubble Bash 2014, Mr. Dave and his Super Hero Sidekicks was another popular choice. Dave Hamilton and his band are staples on Chicago’s vibrant Kindie music scene and the cover of his last album features him flying through the air, complete with superhero cape. Singing a wide range of kid-engaging songs, Mr. Dave will have his audience, grown-ups included, up and on their feet dancing to the beat as they take a musical trip to Superhero Street.

In addition to musical performances and regular Museum exhibits, visitors will be able to choose from a variety of special hands-on activities spread over each of the Museum’s three floors. Explore the science of polymers by making Super Stretch hero putty. Create a light with your personalized super hero insignia to flash in the night. Design and wear a super hero cape that symbolizes your unique special power. Develop agility skills as you work your way through a challenging obstacle course only a super hero could conquer. And to fuel the super-sized appetite that all of the activities are sure to cause, you can build an edible power energy wand out of healthy snacks.

Bubble Bash 2014 will build to a spectacular conclusion as visitors join together for a New Year’s kick off led by Naperville’s own local superhero, Mayor A. George Pradel. Mayor Pradel’s super-charged delivery of the famous countdown to Noon never fails to delight the crowd and start the showers of confetti-like bubbles that rain down on the crowd at the stroke of twelve.

“It’s such a privilege and I’m honored to participate each year at the Museum’s Bubble Bash to lead the children in the annual ceremonial countdown,” said Mayor Pradel. “Families and children are at the very heart of our community.”

Pre-registration and pre-payment are required: $20 Members/$25 Nonmembers. Call (630) 637-8000, ext. 0, visit the Museum or register online at DuPage Children’s Museum website.
