Naperville Gardener – Come see us this season!

-

Krueger_webOne of the projects of the Naperville Garden Club is to inform and entertain the Naperville community with weekly exhibits at the main desk in the Nichols Library. Our exhibits are sometimes informative, with displays about invasive species, how to make a terrarium, etc.

Sometimes they are boastful as we proudly announce our scholarship recipients and the studies they are pursuing to make our world a better place. But for now, the exhibits are festive and beautiful.

For the next few weeks, our Workshop Committee will be placing outstanding floral designs on the counter. These ladies work year-round to create centerpieces, wreaths, swags, etc. that will be for sale at the Holiday Market during our Cup of Cheer™ House Walk, Holiday Market and Tea. You can get a sneak peek and perhaps like so many of our ticket-holders, you will start your day at Larrance Academic Center on the campus of North Central College, 309 E. School St.

We are excited to have the use of a Martin Mitchell Mansion Friendship Plate at our Tea. One of the requirements of membership in the Naperville Garden Club is that each member must bake fi ve dozen cookies for the Tea. Two years ago, our Social Chairpersons decided to inspire the members to bake our best by having a cookie contest. The Social Chairpersons and the Cookie Chairperson choose the top ten based on conformation to size, presentation and originality. The visiting dignitaries from Garden Clubs of Illinois chose the top three cookies, adding taste to the deciding factors and placed them if order of fi rst, second and third. I am personally so proud (and amazed!) that my cookies have place in the top ten each year!

Tickets are now on sale for this year’s event, held Thurs., Dec. 4 and Fri., Dec. 5. For details, visit www.napervillegardenclub.org or call our ticket chairperson, Barbara at (630) 964-7408.

It’s not too early to have your home considered for next year’s event. We can be reached at napervillegardenclub@hotmail.com.
