We are a dinosaur of sorts—the kind of pet store that I remember going to as a kid. Sounds of parakeets, bubblers in fish tanks and hamsters running in wheels—you don’t find that much anymore. It’s not often that you can walk into a store and find the owner behind the counter or sweeping one of the aisles.
I love owning an independent business and especially love working with animals that are in need. I look forward to greeting customers and seeing familiar faces walk through my door. And I get excited at the prospect of a new customer. I guess it’s what keeps me going. Shopping at my store keeps this community vital.
Shopping at local stores like Anderson’s Books keeps our community relevant. Shopping local keeps money in our community. Tons of facts and figures support this notion, but it’s pretty simple.
I live in Naperville. Most of my employees live in or near Naperville and spend a fair amount of time and money in Naperville. Where does their money go? Naperville!
Anderson’s Books draws an enormous number of folks to downtown Naperville. They encourage people to take a look around and dine downtown. We all benefit. Our tax base is supported anytime someone spends money at anyone of our local businesses.
This holiday season, I challenge you to spend $100 that you would have spent at a big chain store or online at a local business.
