North Central College students, veterans to observe moment of silence at 11AM Tuesday
On Veterans Day and throughout this week, North Central College in Naperville is observing Veteran and Military Student Appreciation Week to honor and recognize its 24 student veterans and four ROTC cadets.
Students and public are welcome to the playing of “Taps” and a moment of silence—taking place at 11AM Tuesday, Nov. 11, at three different outdoor campus locations on Veterans Day.
- Old Main flag pole, 30 N. Brainard St.: Trumpet player is Abigail Francis ’16, student veterans are Megan Nilles ’16 (Air Force) and Ponce Vargas ’17 (Army), faculty/staff veteran is Rick Fobes (Navy), adjunct assistant professor of marketing.
- Jefferson Commons (near Jefferson Avenue and Brainard Street): Trumpet player is Kay Glover ’18.
- Bill Shatzer ’42 Sculpture at Championship Plaza outside Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium, 455 S. Brainard St.: Trumpet player is Zach Murphy ’18, student veteran is Justin Stuursma ’18 (Army). Justin will be in his military uniform.
Additional weeklong activities include a Wall of Heroes, a Service Project that includes notes of appreciation and collection drive, Oesterle Library display, Yellow Ribbon campaign and flag display, and lunch with a student veteran.
