Police investigate fatal pedestrian traffic crash at Book and Rickert Rd.

UPDATE on Nov. 14, 2014 / On November 13, 2014, The Naperville Police Department Traffic Unit issued the following traffic citations to the driver, Kenneth E. Holmberg, as a result of the investigation.

  1. Disobeyed a traffic control signal (red light) (11-306 City Ordinance Violation)
  2. Failure to exercise due care (11-1003.1 City Ordinance Violation)

Court date will be assigned by the Dupage County Circuit Clerk’s office.

Original Post on Nov. 10, 2014 / On November 9 at 8:15PM, the Naperville Police Department and Naperville Fire Department responded to the intersection of Book and Rickert Rd. for a traffic crash involving a pedestrian. The pedestrian, Emily S. Driscoll, 22 years of age of Naperville was transported from the scene by Naperville Fire Department Paramedics to Edward Hospital where she eventually succumbed to her injuries. The victim’s dog was also struck and died as a result of the crash.

Further investigation revealed that Driscoll was walking her dog across the street when she was struck by a Maroon 2001 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by Kenneth E. Holmberg, 74 years of age of Plainfield. Holmberg was traveling eastbound on Rickert Rd, when he struck Driscoll who was crossing the street, northbound on Book Rd.

Due to the nature of the crash, members of the Naperville Police Department’s Traffic Unit specially trained in crash reconstruction, responded to the scene to investigate the crash which remains under investigation at this time.
