North Central College presents Theatreworks USA in “A Christmas Carol” with two shows at noon and 3PM Sunday, Dec. 14.
The play will be staged in the College’s Pfeiffer Hall, 310 E. Benton Ave. Tickets are $12/adults and $6/children under 12; call 630-637-SHOW (7469) or visit northcentralcollege.edu/showtix.
Meet miserly Ebenezer Scrooge, the man who believes the Christmas holiday is merely “humbug.” He grudgingly gives his clerk the day off for family, but refuses to celebrate the holiday himself.
In this musical interpretation of the Charles Dickens classic, Scrooge is visited by a succession of spirits-the ghost of his deceased business partner Jacob Marley and the Ghosts of Christmases Past, Present and Yet-to-Come-and learns he must reconsider his outlook on life. “A Christmas Carol” captures both the humorous and touching moments of the classic story with witty dialogue and fresh new songs, conveying Dickens’ original message that the holiday season should be a “kind, forgiving, charitable time.”
A professional theatre company for young and family audiences, Theatreworks USA’s mission is to create imaginative and thought-provoking shows that are educational and entertaining. “A Christmas Carol” is from the book by David Armstrong, with lyrics by Mark Waldrop and music by Dick Gallagher.
