Police investigate serious vehicle crash at 75th St. and Book Rd.

-

Naperville PoliceUPDATE, Oct. 20, 2014 / The Naperville Police Department was notified at approximately 12:30AM this morning by medical officials of Good Samaritan Hospital, in Downers Grove that Mr. Siony died of his very serious injuries sustained on October 17, 2014.  As a result of the investigation, Rachel Nowakowski has been cited for Failure to Yield Turing Left, No Valid Driver’s License (Expired Driver’s License), and Failure to Provide Proof of Insurance.

Editor’s Note:  Dr. Nikhil Siony of Aurora died of “traumatic injuries” sustained in the crash. A respected internal medicine physician, he served on the staff of the Lawndale Christian Health Center in Chicago. Early Friday afternoon were afraid this sad news would be the outcome. About 12:25PM Friday, while driving south on Book Road, we came upon the accident scene at 75th Street while the NPD was investigating, taking photos, etc.  We saw the badly mangled vehicle and couldn’t imagine how anyone could escape without very serious injuries. After following the detour, we arrived a few minutes late to our appointment on 83rd Street and the manager said he had been rerouted earlier that morning at the same intersection.

Folks, slow down! Pay attention. Never, never use cells phones or electronic devices while driving. And always watch out for the other guy. Be safe.

PREVIOUS POST / On Friday October 17, 2014, at 8:25 AM, the Naperville Police Department and Naperville Fire Department responded to the intersection of 75th St. and Book Rd. for the report of a two-car crash. Responding units located a black 2009 Mazda and a 2008 silver Toyota involved in the crash. The driver of the Toyota was identified as Nikhil Siony, 45 years of age, of Aurora. The driver of the Mazda was identified as Rachel Nowakowski, 30 years of age, of Villa Park.

Mr. Siony was entrapped in his vehicle and needed to be extricated by Naperville Fire Department personnel. Due to the serious injuries, Mr. Siony was airlifted to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.

Preliminary investigation indicates Mr. Siony was travelling east on 75th St. while Ms. Nowakowski proceeded to turn southbound Book Rd. from westbound 75th St. and struck Mr. Siony’s vehicle. Ms. Nowakowski was treated for minor injuries at Edward Hospital and released.

Due to the nature of the crash, members of the Naperville Police Department’s Traffic Unit trained in crash reconstruction responded to the scene to investigate the crash which remains under investigation at this time. During the course of the initial investigation segments of Book Rd. and 75th St. were closed and rerouted until approximately 1:15 PM.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has any additional information regarding the crash is asked to contact the Naperville Police Department’s Traffic Unit at (630) 305-5379 or email parcelk@naperville.il.us.
