Art Talk – Pieces of Eight

-

venezia_webThink of what you could accomplish in eight minutes: You could call a friend, write a letter, clean your sock drawer, make a sandwich, run a mile or watch a movie.

That’s right – watch a movie! For the second year in a row, the After Hours Film Society imposed a length of 8 minutes or less on films entered into its Student Film Festival. Emerging filmmakers from around the world responded to the society’s “call for artists” announced last fall and submitted their original productions for consideration in the society’s 12th annual event.

Festival organizers were impressed with the diversity of films received. Entries from across the nation and as far reaching as Germany, Bangladesh, and Indonesia will be evaluated by a team of judges. The jurors will meet to screen, dissect, analyze and rank each film based on age level (grammar, high school, undergraduate and graduate) and category (fiction, non-fiction and animation/experimental).

Films receiving the highest ratings will be compiled into a special program that will be presented to the public at the After Hours Film Society’s “Say It In Eight” Student Film Festival at the Tivoli Theatre, 5021 Highland, Downers Grove, Ill.

From live action to experimental, this year’s winning films promise to challenge and entertain. Here is your chance to peek inside the mind of the next generation of filmmakers. Why not treat yourself to this captivating and inspiring event? Your support could make a difference!
