Teen’s Taste – Kuma’s Asian Bistro

-

Jack_MA nice stroll in downtown Naperville brought me to my next dining adventure.

Kuma’s Asian Bistro is located at 216 S. Washington Street. Their hours are 4-9PM Tuesday – Thursday; 11AM-10PM Friday – Saturday; 11AM –9PM Sunday. The restaurant is very calming and soothing and they play nice music. The building itself is one of the original buildings in downtown Naperville. It has the original tin ceiling most likely from the 1800’s. Kuma’s has been in business for four years with Kuma J. Kim as the executive chef and owner.

For an appetizer we had the pot stickers which are beef and veggie dumplings served with their special dipping sauce. The pot stickers were one of my favorites—crispy on the outside, moist on the inside and the special sauce is an excellent combo. For the second appetizer, we choose the Stir Fried Crispy Green Beans. These were cooked crispy with a sweet garlic soy sauce, a hint of chili and cooked perfectly.

For my entre, I went with the teriyaki bowl with chicken and it is usually served over white rice, but I substituted mine with noodles. This plate is large enough for two to share. The dish had stir fried mushrooms, broccoli, zucchini, onions, red peppers in their teriyaki sauce. The chicken was tender and moist the noodles were nice and thick and tender. For my side I choose the stir fried rice and added shrimp. Rice was nicely cooked and the shrimp had a really good flavor.

My mom had the small plate of Honey Walnut Chicken. Crispy lightly battered chicken cooked with a special honey sauce topped with glazed walnuts. Of course, my mom let me sample it and it was delicious! It melted in your mouth. This was a perfect size for her. I will definitely be trying that dish next time.

Brad had the Kyochun Chicken which is crispy pieces of chicken marinated in their special curry and chili pepper sauce and served with spicy rice. This was a mouthwatering dish—spicy, but good.

Our server, Auggie, recommended Lava cake for dessert. So we went for it … the cake was delicious! Soft and moist and warm, the chocolate syrup is nice and thin. The side of ice cream went nicely with the warm cake!

I would highly recommend stopping in to Kuma’s where there is definitively something for everyone to enjoy. And tell them Jack-the-foodie sent ya!
