Little Friends is proud to announce that Ray McGury has accepted a position on their Board of Directors.  McGury, the Executive Director at the Naperville Park District, has been an invaluable part of the Naperville community for more than 27 years.  He served on the Naperville Police department for more than 20 of those years, retiring at a rank of Captain.  He then went on to take the Chief of Police position in Bolingbrook before returning to Naperville to head the Park District.

McGury has been a champion of Little Friends for a great number of years, and was instrumental in having College Park, located at 147 N. Columbia and adjacent to Little Friends main campus in Naperville, be re-designed and constructed for children with special needs in mind.

“I am humbled to be asked to be part of such a wonderful organization,” McGury stated in a news release. “Little Friends represents everything that is right with helping our special needs community.  I look forward to working with Kristi Landorf and the Little Friends Board of Directors.”

McGury has been honored by the Illinois State Crime Commission as Police Chief of the Year and received the Medal of Honor for Bravery from the International Narcotics Officers’ Association. He also received the Naperville Jaycees Distinguished Service Award, and the Kreml Leadership Award from Northwestern University.  He has been active in the Illinois Special Olympics, St. Baldrick’s Cure for Pediatric Cancer, Naperville Ribfest, and has been a volunteer coach for the Naperville and Bolingbrook Park Districts and YMCA.

In addition, he serves as an adjunct professor at the Center for Public Safety at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL, an adjunct criminal justice professor at Lewis University in Romeoville, IL, and an instructor for the Department of Homeland Security in Washington D.C.

Kristi Landorf, CEO and President at Little Friends, is very grateful to have someone of McGury’s caliber joining the Board.

“The breadth of Ray’s experience, combined with his ongoing advocacy for people with disabilities, will be an invaluable addition to Little Friends,” Landorf said.
