UPDATE Aug. 31 / An important detail that Christine Haselhorst left out of her August column about her behind-the-scene efforts at Last Fling was that she would be front-and-center Saturday night. Christine failed to mention that she was scheduled to sing the National Anthem before OAR began its performance on Belgio’s Main Stage. Oh, my gosh, did Christine belt out a memorable rendition of the Star Spangled Banner!  The appreciative crowd was with her the entire way with heartfelt cheers and appropriate applause—especially when she came to “O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!”

Be sure to read Christine’s column in the September issue where she reminisces about her high school experience at Naperville North with thanks to community for supporting the arts. God bless America!

One of Naperville’s greatest events of the year is almost here—the Naperville Jaycees Last Fling!

Being a Naperville Jaycee myself, I can tell you first hand how family-friendly, entertaining and enjoyable this event really is. We have carnival rides, a Family Fun Land, tons of food and drinks, and awesome bands playing every night on Rotary Hill along the Riverwalk.

We run our own race called The Fling Mile and help organize the Labor Day Parade.

This spectacular fundraiser could not be put on without the amazing help of the executive director, executive committee, chair persons, and volunteers. The Jaycees work all weekend, night and day, with little sleep to put on our four-day event.

While the Jaycees spend the better part of a year planning the entire event, the effort is very gratifying. All proceeds from the Fling go toward helping charitable organizations in the Naperville area.

This year, I am the chair of Jaycee Food. The Jaycees themselves like to sell brats, hot dogs, nachos, beer, and other goodies to get our name out there and raise funds for our nonprofit organization. It all sounds easy enough, but the amount of time, planning, and physical effort that it takes to run Jaycee Food has kept me busy all year!

So please, come say and say “hi.” You will find me at either of our locations on Rotary Hill or Family Fun Land.

The Last Fling starts at 5PM, Fri., Aug. 29 and runs through Labor Day weekend until Sept. 1. The food vendors, carnival, and entertainment stage are located on Jackson Ave. Family Fun Land is held in Naper Settlement, and the Mainstage is located on Rotary Hill.

For information about Mainstage tickets, sponsorship packages, and a full schedule of events, visit www.lastfling.org.

Please come out and celebrate Labor Day weekend with us. Not only will you have a great time, you will be giving back to the community in a wonderful way.

Hope to see everyone there!
