During a recent City Council meeting, Becky Pundy, founder of the Respite Endowment Organization (REOrg), stepped up to the podium to introduce city officials to a recently established private nonprofit initiative. The mission of REOrg is to provide rest breaks, education and support opportunities to parents of children with special needs in the Lisle/Naperville area.
Their vision is to give parents time and opportunity to rest and recharge so they can beat the daily stress of taking care of their children.
Pundy, a parent of two children with special needs, also serves as executive director. She recalls when she and her husband received gifts of respite and now she wants to pay it forward.
“By supporting and taking care of parents with special needs children between ages 3-12, we can take care of families,” Pundy said later.
REOrg provides respite gifts in the form of dinner certificates, movie tickets, massage treatments and more.
The group also envisions in-home respite care services for families through their care partner, BrightStar Kidcare of Naperville.
Going forward, they seek start-up funding, support, respite gifts and help creating awareness. Pundy is available to speak about this cause to local service organizations.
