“Naperville is a tremendous city,” Coyne wrote. “ I believe my experience in business and my years serving on Naperville commissions will allow me to contribute as a councilman. I look forward to this race. This should be a very exciting election cycle.”

Coyne is a partner in the Naperville law firm of Nyberg & Cassioppi, LLC. He has practiced law in the Naperville-area since 2000 and is currently a member of the Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce’s Board of Directors. City Council Election 2015

As a result of a city-wide referendum vote in support of term limits in November 2010, the terms of the Mayor and all eight at-large City Council representatives will expire in on April 30, 2015.

In the Consolidated Election on April 7, 2015, each voter will be able to help select eight at-large City Council representatives in addition to voting for the Mayor in Naperville’s Council/City Manager form of government.

The length of Council terms will be decided by the total number of votes received. In 2015, the four Council candidates who receive the most votes will serve four-year terms and these seats will be up for election again in 2019.

The next four individuals to receive the most votes will serve two-year terms.

In order to stagger elections of City Council members so four members are elected every two years, in 2017, the seats of the individuals who served two-year terms will be up for election as a four-year term.

The Mayoral seat remains a four-year term.

Who else will run?

Mayor George Pradel, now in his fifth four-year term, has indicated he will not seek a sixth term.

To date, Steve Chirico is the only current City Councilman to announce officially his intentions to run for Mayor.

Councilman Grant Wehrli is running for State Legislature in the Nov. 4 Gubernatorial Election.

Councilman Bob Fieseler repeatedly has indicated during City Council meetings that he will not seek re-election.

Though the five remaining members of City Council have not officially announced their candidacy, Councilmen Judy Brodhead, Paul Hinterlong, Doug Krause, Joe McElroy and Dave Wentz are expected to run again.

Considerable speculation has surfaced about other candidates who are exploring the possibilities to fill the open seats. Time will tell if there will be a need for a Consolidated Primary Election on February 24, 2015.

Note also that the boards of education for both school districts that serve Naperville as well as the Naperville Park District Board of Commissioners hold elections on April 7, 2015. NPD Commissioner Ron Ory announced earlier this year that he will not seek re-election.

Gubernatorial Election is Nov. 4, 2014

Meanwhile, the General Gubernatorial Election is Tues., Nov. 4.  Become acquainted with the contested candidates who will serve Naperville in Washington, D.C., Springfield as well as DuPage and Will counties, all of whom are posted on the Positively Naperville Election and Voters Guide.

Be an educated voter by Nov. 4. Polls will be open from 6AM to 7PM.
