Flashback Friday: Meet a Curator

Join the museum’s curatorial staff at 1PM Fri., Aug. 1 during Flashback Friday: Meet a Curator at the Naper Settlement Collections Care and Storage Facility, 180 Fort Hill Drive, Door C in Naperville. Explore the museum’s furniture collection, including furniture made by Kroehler Manufacturing Co., one of the largest Naperville employers from the 1890s to 1978. For ages teen to adult. Tickets are $10 per person. Call for reservations at (630) 420-6010.

Settlement Sundays

Settlement Sundays will be held from 1-4PM Aug. 3, 10, 17 and 24. Admission includes free ice cream sundaes from Culver’s with do-it-yourself toppings, hands-on family activities and tours of historic buildings. Ice cream is served from 2-3:30PM. Admission is $12 adults, $10 seniors, $8 youth 4-12; Naperville residents, children under 4 and members are free.

Wednesday Walking Club

Join fellow walkers for this free, healthy lifestyle program held from 8 to 9AM on Wednesdays through Oct. 29. Choose your route through the museum grounds, with a longer circuit option along the Riverwalk. Sign in at the Pre-Emption House Tavern, log your minutes and then enjoy a healthy treat, courtesy of Reality Fitness.

Hometown Picnic

What better way to spend a lazy, hazy summer day than at a picnic, while enjoying old-fashioned games, contests and an apple pie competition. Naper Settlement’s Hometown Picnic will be held from noon to 4PM Sat., Aug. 9. Food will be available for purchase. Activities are included with museum admission, which is $12 adults, $10 seniors, $8 youth 4-12; Naperville residents, children under 4 and members are free.

Naperville Plays

Double your fun when Naper Settlement and the DuPage Children’s Museum team up to present a day of play from 1 to 4PM Sun., Aug. 17. Enjoy exhibits and hands-on activities while discovering the wonder of play and innovation in a historical setting. Admission is $12 adults, $10 seniors, $8 youth 4-12; Naperville residents, children under 4 and members are free.

Naper Nights Community Concert Series

The Naper Nights Community Concert Series sets the stage for nonstop summertime music from 5 to 10PM Friday and Saturday, Aug. 22 and 23. This year’s theme continues “The History of Rock” with American English presenting an entire evening of Beatles’ music on Friday night celebrating the Fab Four’s arrival in American 50 years ago. On Saturday night, 16 Candles will play the best pop and rock of the ’80s and ’90s with opening act Tumbling Dice playing a tribute to the Rolling Stones. Bring a blanket or lawn chair for this opportunity to enjoy music under the stars. Sullivan’s Steakhouse will be providing a Taste of Naperville. Naperville Jaycees Family Fun Land

The Naperville Jaycees Family Fun Land, which is part of the Last Fling, provides a family-friendly atmosphere with bouncy rides, pony rides, an entertainment stage, arts and crafts area, food and beverages, family-focused business expo booths and much more from 10AM to 7 PM Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 30-31 and from 11AM to 4PM Mon., Sept. 1.
