The intersection of Main Street and Benton Avenue is expected to temporarily close beginning July 28 for one week to accommodate utility work that is taking place for the Main Street Promenade East development.
Signs and barricades will be used to indicate the closure, which is necessary to install a watermain at that location. Vehicles should use Webster Street and Jefferson Avenue as alternate routes if traveling in the area. Work will be performed from 8AM to 3:30PM, and the intersection will be reopened to traffic at the end of each work day.
Entrance from Benton to Parking Deck will remain open
The entrance to the Van Buren Parking Deck will remain open, and access to the properties on Benton Avenue west of Main Street and north of Benton Avenue on Main Street will be maintained at all times. Motorists traveling in that portion of downtown Naperville are advised to be cautious of construction occurring in the area and allow extra time to reach their destination.
The Main Street Promenade East development is a $30 million retail and office project located on the northeast corner of Main Street and Van Buren Avenue. As part of the project, Main Street between Benton and Van Buren avenues was closed on September 30, 2013, and a vehicle detour has been posted directing traffic around the closure. Both the roadway and sidewalks have been closed between Benton and Van Buren avenues and will reopen in the fall of this year. Pedestrian access is being maintained to the businesses on the west side of Main Street from Van Buren Avenue.
In addition, the south side of the sidewalk along Benton Avenue between Main Street and the Van Buren Parking Deck entrance is also closed as part of the project. Pedestrians can use the north sidewalk along Benton Avenue.
