july riverwalk 2008 031The City of Naperville is pleased to announce it has been named one of the best cities for new college grads based on a study that ranked the quality of life and travel amenities of America’s small and mid-sized cities.

The study, completed by Livability.com, ranked Naperville No. 9 out of 10 with Cambridge, Mass., taking the top spot of the best city for new college grads in 2014. Bellevue, Wash., and Austin, Tex., were ranked No. 2 and 3, respectively. The full list of all the cities ranked in the study is available at www.livability.com.

“Naperville has always held the reputation of a diverse community that offers something for everyone, regardless of your age or your chosen career,” City Manager Doug Krieger said. “Our City has wonderful amenities and opportunities for young people who are ready to begin their lives once they have completed their college educations. We’re pleased to attract so many educated young people who not only help contribute their ideas and labor to our local economy but also want to begin the next chapter of their lives in a place where they can feel at home.”

Riverwalk Visionaries planned an enduring brick path along the DuPage River.

The City of Naperville was chosen for its low unemployment rate of 5.5 percent among 25- to 34-year-olds, high percentage of non-service industry jobs and excellent public transportation. The City offers a blend of small-town charm and big-city amenities, including the picturesque Riverwalk, community parks, a vibrant downtown and more than 260 restaurants.

Editors of the study looked at factors such as the number of 25- to 34-year-olds living in each city, the availability of rental properties, unemployment rates, educational attainment levels, use of public transportation and the types of jobs these places offer. They also sought out cities that cater to a younger demographic by offering lots of recreational activities, an active, fun atmosphere. The top-hiring industries were also taken into account.
