Celebrate ‘Young Naperville Singers Day’ on May 4

Young Naperville Singers Day is May 4, 2014.

During the April 15 City Council meeting, Councilman Paul Hinterlong read a Mayoral Proclamation that distinguished May 4, 2014, as “Young Naperville Singers Day in the City of Naperville,” in recognition of the organization’s 30th anniversary. Kim Spayer, Director of Fund Development, Nicole Benziger, incoming President; and John Wheeler, VP, were on hand to accept the proclamation for the nonprofit group.

To commemorate their anniversary on that day in May, Young Naperville Singers will be celebrating in song at Wentz Concert Hall in the North Central College Fine Arts Center, located at Chicago Avenue and Ellsworth Street in downtown Naperville.

Three public performances will be staged, slated to begin at 2PM, 4PM and 6:30PM on Sun., May 4.

Tickets may be purchased by calling the YNS office at (630) 369-9679. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for senior citizens, students and children.

YNS choir member selected to sing in ‘Love Story: A Musical Movie’

In other exciting news during this 30th anniversary year, Young Naperville Singers announced that Adia Clark Lay, one of the members of its Dolce Choir, has been selected for a role in an upcoming movie “Love Story: A Musical Movie.”

The movie is written and will be directed by independent director Ametra Self.

Clark Lay will be singing one of the songs in the movie and will be in a scene where she is a beauty pageant contestant who performs a song and dance routine. Details regarding the release date of the movie are not known at this time. Clark Lay resides with her family in Oswego.

Did you know? Young Naperville Singers was founded by the late Helen Grubbs in 1984 and was subsequently chartered as a not for profit 501 (c) (3) corporation. Angie Johnson serves as the Artistic Director for YNS. YNS continues to perform two annual concerts and many regional community events. Celebrating its 30th year, YNS is comprised of eight ability-based treble choirs with total membership exceeding 340 boys and girls ranging in age from 6 to 18 years of age. YNS has a Boys Choir and a Young Men’s Chorus for boys whose voices have changed and is the only one of its kind in the western suburbs.

Throughout its 30-year history more than 4,000 singers and their families have participated in the organization and many YNS singers have gone on to become community leaders, performance professionals and music educators both in Naperville and around the country including Tamara Wilson, Kristy Anderson, Jillian Macuda, Mathew Neylon, Carolyn Fries Dillon, Beth Blecha O’Riodon, Nealy Clark, Chris Swanson Kimberly Miller.

Young Naperville Singers is partially supported by a grant from the City of Naperville, SECA Fund, The DuPage Community Foundation, the Illinois Arts Council, Farny R. Wurlitzer Foundation and many generous local businesses and individuals.
