When my husband and I went in search of a place to call home 17 years ago, our “must haves” included good schools, safe neighborhoods, a thriving downtown in close proximity to a train station and lots of green space. In Naperville, we found it all.
At NCTV17 we also are proud to call Naperville our home. For 27 years we’ve been the only TV station dedicated to covering the people, places and perspectives of Naperville.
Our goal is to give our viewers a front row seat at a wide variety of community events. So far this year we’ve broadcast the State of the City, WVHS’s Orchesis Show, North Central College’s “Explore the Sound” concert, NNHS’s Learners to Leaders Alumni Recognition, D204’s Middle School Spelling Bee, the GOP Gubernatorial debate and the West Suburban Irish St. Patrick’s Day Parade, to name just a few.
And in addition to taking our cameras out to the community, we also invite viewers into our home. Local Boy and Girl Scout troops now can tour our studio, see our control room and edit bay, create their own promo using the green screen and teleprompter, all while asking questions of our sports and news reporters.
Two months from now many young aspiring broadcast journalists will walk through the doors of NCTV17 to get a hands-on education through our high school and college intern program. And for Naperville residents looking to get involved in their local TV station, we have launched a new program called Community Crew, which provides an opportunity for trained volunteers to work alongside our staff and interns during community event productions.
