Update April 24 / KidsMatter did it again with an amazing showcase of talented teens directed by Elic Bramlett and produced by Deb Newman with welcomes by Leah Rippe and Barbara Yokom.
Thanks to all 100 students who came together to put on another really good show that also honored Sue Broad, Past President of the DuPage Children’s Museum; and the Ron Buonauro Family for their dedication to children as a benefit for ParentsMatter Too.
During the finale, Gina Glocksen sang “Brave,” and quickly was surrounded on stage by the cast of gifted students who joined her singing in full voices, “You can be amazing… You can turn a phrase into a weapon or a drug… You can be the outcast… Or be the backlash of somebody’s lack of love… Or you can start speaking up…”
Proceeds will help fund parent support initiative to combat drug deaths in Naperville community
KidsMatter in Naperville will present its third annual Ignite the Nite Benefit Showcase Concert at Wentz Concert Hall at North Central College beginning at 7:30PM on Thurs., April 24.
This year’s benefit concert will raise funds for ParentsMatter Too, a critical initiative to help parents help their kids avoid making life-threatening choices. As deaths of young people from heroin and other substances have risen in Naperville and DuPage County, ParentsMatter Too puts the expertise, knowledge and resources of local professionals and parents who have lost children in the hands of parents seeking reliable information and support.
“Ignite the Nite: Out of the Darkness, Into the Light” will showcase the finest music, dance and theatrical talents of over 100 high school students from Naperville School Districts 203 and 204 and Benet Academy. The Gala Concert will be highlighted by Naperville singer and American Idol finalist Gina Glocksen, and the Pete Ellman Big Band, featuring Student All-Stars. The concert will honor retired DuPage Children’s Museum President Sue Broad and the Ron Buonauro Family for all the many years they have served the Naperville community. The program is presented in cooperation with the School of Performing Arts in Naperville. The KidsMatter To Me Honoree Sponsor of Ms. Broad is Marquette Companies.
“This year, we want to emphasize the critical role that parents can play in the choices of our young people. In 22 years at the Children’s Museum, Sue Broad has provided opportunities for parents and children to explore choices and decision-making together.” says KidsMatter Executive Director IdaLynn Wenhold. “Ron and Tina Marie Buonauro modeled philanthropy for their family through the many fundraisers they held to support youth health and development throughout our community.”
The concert will be preceded by a VIP benefit reception. A silent auction held before and throughout the concert will offer the opportunity to bid on unique experiences for young people and adults. Tickets are available through the Wentz Hall Box office, http://finearts.northcentralcollege.edu/ticket-information or by calling (630) 637-SHOW.
