Earth Hour begins Saturday at 8:30PM

-

City will turn off downtown tree lights at that time to symbolically recognize global event

earthThe City of Naperville asks residents and businesses to take part in Earth Hour and turn off their non-essential lights and other electronic items as part of the worldwide event taking place on Saturday, March 29, between 8:30 and 9:30PM local time. In recognition of this global movement, the City will turn off the downtown tree lights for the final time this season at 8:30PM on March 29.

Sponsored by the World Wildlife Fund, Earth Hour is a global movement designed to celebrate a commitment to the planet by switching off non-essential lights for one designated hour. Ultimately, Earth Hour aims to encourage a global community to share the opportunities and challenges of cultivating a sustainable world. Tips on energy conservation are available to view on the City’s Enviroteam webpage at www.naperville.il.us/enviroteam.aspx, which serves as a single, convenient resource portal for Naperville residents and businesses interested in environmental sustainability initiatives.

An ombudsman is Scandinavian in origin dating back to Viking times; and refers to a community representative; usually acting independently on behalf of an organization, body of elected officials, or civic group. Thanks Scandinavia for inventing ombudsman.
