Greetings to PN / December 2013 / Volume 13 #4

-

Most recent greeting is posted at top. Occasionally, Greetings to PN also are linked to online stories. Many of these greetings, edited for space, will appear in the next issue of PN. Thank you for keeping greetings brief.  And thanks for sending your thoughts with your signature. We welcome them!

To PN Editor: I just peeked at your link for our breakfast (Author Paula D’Arcy to Keynote Silent Samaritan Breakfast / Feb. 4 at Hotel Arista) and it is wonderful. Thank you so much for helping us get information of our event out to the women of Naperville! —Kathryn Severyn, Director of Development, Samaritan Interfaith Counseling Center

To PN Editor: What a spectacular show; all in one place for me to see. Seeing these wonderful light displays only reinforces my feeling Naperville has the SPIRIT second to none derived from wonderful neighbors and caring people. We should be PROUD!! —John Harvard

To PN Editor: Thank you for posting our community news on Positively Naperville. Your article about skating and sledding is especially nice with the photos and all the information listed. Happy snowy December and an early Merry Christmas! —Sue Omanson, Community Development Manager, Naperville Park District

To PN Editor / Correction Note:  I see you have a Dec 7th Christmas concert by the Navy Band listed. That is the concert that had to be cancelled due to sequestration. We then made arrangements for the Veterans Concert. The band will not be there (1PM Sat., Dec. 7)! —Terry Jelinek

Editor’s Note:  We appreciate notices of correction. The Naperville Chorus will perform its Christmas Concert at 8PM Sat., Dec. 7, in The Wentz Concert Hall.

To the PN Community: Thanks to your generosity, Loaves & Fishes was able to connect Community to Compassion on #GivingTuesday! You helped us to shatter our goal with total gifts of $97,147.89 (including the $25,000 match from our anonymous donor)!

We appreciate your outstanding support as we continue to feed and empower our community. Last month, 2,696 families turned to Loaves & Fishes for support, an increase of 6 percent over October.

Thanks for helping us to meet the Giving Tuesday challenge and doubling the impact of your donation!

—Megan Selck, Director of Development, Loaves and Fishes Community Pantry

To All Veterans & their Families: Now that the Turkey and leftovers have been eaten, it is time to think again about Yoga For Veterans. Our esteemed class leader sent out a post on lessons learned from our yoga classes. To me. The most important lesson is #5, “You are important, so take the time to nurture your body and your soul. Do what you love to and practice with all your heart.”

The Yoga for Veterans classes are going well. We have 15 to 25 attendees at the sessions. The times are 10 to 11AM on Wednesdays at the VFW and 9:30 to 10:30AM on Saturdays at the Rubin Center. More instructors have contacted Dana so we will hopefully have more classes available at night and on weekends. For all veterans, active duty military and spouses please consider coming to one of the classes. BTW, family members of deployed military are also encouraged to participate. Lord knows you folks are under stress.

—Mike Barbour, Veterans Advocate

To PN Editor: Loved the Christmas issue!! Great review of Arista Spa and always great to see John Harvard!!

To the PN Community: As we enter another hectic holiday season time seems to speed up. We find ourselves with so much to do and so little time. However, despite everything, somehow we find moments to count our blessings and enjoy the gifts we all have been given.

During this season we seem more grateful for our blessings and good fortune. This time of year we also seem more aware of those less fortunate and those who face challenges that are beyond our understanding.

Since its beginning, Turning Pointe Autism Foundation has been a place of service, of volunteering, and of hope for children and families challenged by the impact of Autism. Turning Pointe Autism Foundation would not be what it is today without the amazing support we receive from you and so many others.

During this season when time seems to move faster than normal, I am slowing down, if just for a moment, to do one very important thing.

On behalf of all of us at Turning Pointe Autism Foundation and for all the children and families we thank you for giving.

—Walter Johnson, President/CEO Turning Pointe
