Commuters should expect full trains Friday for Blackhawks Parade

-

Trains to depart early if at full capacity; Metra providing additional trains

The City of Naperville informs residents and commuters to expect Metra trains on the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad line to be very full and departing early if they reach capacity as a result of people traveling downtown for the Chicago Blackhawks parade and rally on Friday, June 28. Train riders are advised to allow for adequate time to arrive at the station and board the train.

The City of Naperville provides commuter parking at the Naperville Metra Station and on the north side of the train tracks at the Route 59 Metra Station. While daily fee parking is typically more limited at the Naperville Metra Station, there is ample parking at the Route 59 station. Directions and maps of all available parking at both stations can be found on the City’s commuter parking webpage at www.naperville.il.us/commuterparking.aspx.

The Chicago Blackhawks celebration, which includes a parade that kicks off at 10:30AM at the United Center and concludes with a rally at 11AM in Hutchinson Field in Grant Park, is expected to draw large crowds. Riders are advised to expect full trains for the morning and evening rush-hour commute, as well as immediately before and after the event. Metra is providing additional trains in service and is expanding capacity on scheduled trains.

Inbound added BNSF train lines include:

  • Train No. 9660 at 8:20AM departing Aurora, making all stops to Naperville, and running express to Chicago
  • Train No. 9562 at 9:10AM departing Aurora, making all stops to Downers Main St., and running express to Chicago

Outbound added BNSF train lines from Chicago’s Union Station include:

  • Train No. 9533 at 1:28PM running express to Downers Main St. and making all stops to Aurora

  • Train No. 9539 at 3:10PM running express to Naperville/Route 59
  • Train No. 9543 at 3:50PM running express to Naperville/Route 59

All Metra schedules are subject to change and may be revised Friday, June 28. Naperville residents and commuters are encouraged to check Metra’s website at www.metrarail.com before they travel. Due to the event, Metra will be banning bikes and alcohol from all trains on Friday, June 28.
