State Representative Darlene Senger (R-Naperville) partnered with House Republican Leader Tom Cross (R-Plainfield) to host a roundtable discussion for community leaders focused on the challenges caused by the proposed pension cost-shift on Wednesday, February 13, at Naperville City Hall.
“This roundtable was an opportunity to bring together school administrators, board members, business leaders, and other community leaders to open the dialogue on how the proposed cost-shift would impact local school districts,” said Senger. “As a financial advisor and member of the Governor’s working group on pension reform, I understand the pressures facing our communities and schools. Open communication with stakeholders in the community remains one of my top priorities as State Representative.”
Discussion leaders included representatives from Plainfield Community Consolidated School District 202, Naperville Community Unit School District 203, and Indian Prairie District 204, Michael Mahoney from the House Republican Research Staff and Stand for Children Policy Director, Jessica Handy from Stand for Children.
“I appreciated the conversation and feedback from the roundtable attendees,” said Senger. “The bottom line is that we have tough choices to make. Illinois’ pension systems are the worst-funded in the nation. There is no doubt that the current system is unsustainable and without reform our pension systems will go broke. It is time to look at fair adjustments that will guarantee retirement security for Illinois’ state employees and teachers, and support for our local school districts.”
